Positive Lifestyle
Recently, another in-depth and long-term academic study came out and was in all the news. The conclusion was shocking . . . “Diets don’t work!”. As part of the conclusion, they found that the only thing that does work is creating a positive lifestyle change.
Of course, we all know that, don’t we? Virtually every study that has ever been done on the subject has shown that diets don’t work. Yet, the diet industry is huge! There are hundreds and thousands of books on dieting. Moreover, the diet industry is a multi-billion-dollar-a-year industry. As the market continues to grow it is ironic that obesity is increasing at an alarming rate.
In the past we have talked about binges. “Diets” even if pursued with good intentions are a form of a binge. Binges do not work and do not last. For the vast majority of people these health and dietary issues are all related to lifestyle.
So, what are we to do? Unfortunately, it seems everyone is looking for a quick fix or an easy path to a healthy and resultantly successful lifestyle. We seem to look for the magic program or magic solution. The only magic is that there is no magic.
The answer is exactly the same as it is with any other worthwhile pursuit. We have to make forward progress, one step at a time, knowing that consistent execution over an extended period of time is always successful. This takes discipline and perseverance.
The good news is that discipline and perseverance consistently over an extended period of time is 100 percent guaranteed to create a positive lifestyle, including a successful “diet.” Now, that’s a guarantee we can count on!
